POOR OLD LU Lu Intervue

This section is dedicated to keeping you, the fans of Poor old Lu informed. I ask Jesse(drummer) to answer some questions. Here are the results.

Why did Poor old Lu break up?!

The break up of poor old lu probably couldn't be summed up in one blanket statement, but here are factors that contributed (which could slightly vary between members)
      1. each member is married beginning family life
      2. silly me moved out to new york state (which makes things difficult)
      3. we'd been together over 7 years
      4. we felt like we should break up
      5. other musical projects/bands were on the horizon
      6. can't make a living unless you sell out and play bad music

There may be more to it but that's the basic idea

Is there any chance of you guys getting back together?

I can't say for sure if we'll ever get back together but i can say that after the short time that we've been apart, i'd say that all of us would seriously consider working together in some way up the road studio projects have already been discussed.

Will there be a final album from Poor old Lu - something like a live-best-of album?

Yes, star-studded-super-step will be the first release of our two post lu projects. The original ten songs will be released followed by the final performance and release dates have yet to be issued ( alarma/frontline records)

What other projects are the band members involved in?

as far as other projects from us lu'sers here are a couple
      1. Aaron and nick's band, rose blossom punch are soon to release their first album on Sarabellum records. It's called Ephemere. Aaron plays guitar and sings lead vocals, nick is on the bass, terry coggins on the other guitar, and soulfood 76's paul mumaw on them drums.
      2. Nick has another band called meekin pop. Yhey recorded a tape with Aaron that's available my mail order. it's really cool noisy yet hooky stuff. i approve 6 bucks
        to order it write:
        421 10th ave. apt. # upper
        seattle, wa. 98122
      3. i did an instrumental project last year called sunsites. It's me on acoustic guitars and phil peterson on the cello. It's super mellow. but it's cool because kids like it and old folks do to. It's not in stores and I only have maybe a couple hundred left.
      4. and there's a neato hard to get northwest compilition called "persuading you near". it's on working man records. it has the original version of lu's thoughtless, some sunsites stuff and it has one of me and phil's newer songs. but this time i found it appropriate to sing on it. actually it was a valentines day present to my girl before we were married but nash liked it and wanted it to be the first song on the comp. as well there are plenty of other wonderfull songs on the cd. soulfood 76, damien jurado, fireball brady, moonboy, yum yum, ect,

What is your favorite verse? (bible)

my problem with picking a favorite verse is that there are far too many to pick from but i do have a current favorite clump of verses. It's called the book of 1st peter. I can read it over and over again. and still find cool and new applicable stuff in it. Perhaps i'll give you a monthly favorite (jesse's pick of the month)

What is your favorite song? (Poor old Lu)

And for this next question, well don't get me wrong. I'm by no means comparing poor old lu songs to the bible and all it's vastness. But i'm stumbling on to the same problem. That is, alot of songs that i like. And again i'll probably have to give you a monthly lu tune pick from jazzy sparkle. But here's this months lucky winner
what if uncle ben had lived?
don't know why- it just gets me right there. i'm a sucker for the moody stuff (do i? shine, slow, thoughtless, etc....)
When you recorded your first demo(spoons and all), did you ever think Poor old Lu would get as far as it has?
Well i'd have to say no. (that easy) we just liked music

Could you briefly explain the history of Poor old Lu?

We were all born in the mid seventies (a beautiful time to be born). Me and aaron were raised on vashon island (just outside of west seattle). Nick was raised somewhere close to seattle as well, and i think scott was born in illinois, but lived in alaska for most of his youth. He then moved with his folks to vashon island in 5th grade and that next year we met him after returning with our family from living in southern california for nearly two years. A year or so later nick came into the picture when my brother met him on some retreat/youth group function. So now there's a little group of friends (with me somewhat in the background because i'm aaron's little brother). Oh and as well a new face hit the scene. It's nick's friend from school jeremy enigk, who when the boys began to play music became the lead singer along with scott. So for y'all who know about being in a band, it's somewhat difficult to maintain a steady group while possessing two lead vocalists. So stuff happened and one day scott was the only singer. Although jeremy went off and eventually hooked up with some fellows and formed the legendary sunnyday real estate. And while all this reformation was happening i somehow got interested in the drums and learned how to play some rockin' stryper tunes. And before you knew it i was asked to join the other three in what was then called bell bang villa. (seeing how their live performance lacked a little bit with the drum machine set up they had) So in the summer of 90 we played our first gig as a quartet. from then on it was a matter of playing bars, parks, and churches, while periodically recording demos to vent our little creative branches within us. Eventually the 10 song star-studded-super is birthed into existence. And what happened was that in one way or another it arrived safely into the hands of some folks who were interested in pursuing us (not to name names). So after a couple of kinda screwy offers from some labels, the infamous frontline records calls us and offers a 4 album deal and terry taylor (our hero) producing our first album. The next thing you know we're on a ferry boat on the way to one of our nifty shows signing on the dotted line. and the rest is history: 4 albums-alot of shows and some wives we may otherwise not have found along with so many other priceless treasures and experiences. God has been good to us- even when deeply undeserving of his mercies.
